Album
At the Five Spot volumes one and two is a pair of jazz albums documenting one night 16 July 1961 from the end of Eric Dolphy and Booker Little's two-week residency at the Five Spot in New York. This was the only night to be recorded the engineer was Rudy Van Gelder. A third volume from this session was released, titled Memorial Album, containing Number Eight Potsa Lotsa and Booker's Waltz. These two tracks were later released on the Rudy Van Gelder remaster of Volume 2. Recorded July 16, 1961. Most hail this first volume, and a second companion album from the same sessions, as music that changed the jazz world as much as Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane's innovative excursions of the same era. All forward thinking and challenged listeners need to own these epic club dates. Track Listing. Songs in album Eric Dolphy - At The Five Spot Volume 1 1961. Eric Dolphy - Fire Waltz. Completa la tua Collezione su Eric Dolphy is probably my favorite altoist at the moment, and always one of my top 5 saxophonists, and he is in brilliant form here. His tone is crisp, his lines as fiery and sharp as ever, and he has a wonderful rapport with his supporting cast. Dolphy makes the album worth it by himself. Fortunately, with this supporting cast, he doesn't need to do it all by himself. I disagree with the afore-mentioned reviewer in that this IS essential Dolphy. The creativty on this album, both as soloists and a collective ensemble is first class. Eric Dolphy Related artists. Album name.
